Worship Opportunities for ParticipationWorship Bags include book marks for hymnals and Bibles to help our children prepare to read and sing along. Crayons and paper allow children to give the congregation glimpses of what they observe and learn in worship. Bible story books, activity sheets that coordinate with the day's scripture readings and Bible cards help the young learn Bible stories.
Acolytes are made up of children in grades 3 through 12. They lead worship by bringing the symbolic Light of Christ into our midst as well as leading us out into the world with that same light as we leave.
Liturgists for worship include children and youth - anyone old enough to read who can be seen from behind the pulpit can help lead worship!
Children's Time in worship is a time for our youngest to hear Bible stories, learn about faith symbols, or maybe experience the sacraments with the pastor.
Children's Church is offered for children in Kindergarten and younger following Children's Time in worship. They go to Noah's Nursery and our Rainbow Room for continued Bible stories and related activities.
A Mission Coin Offering is collected by the children every Sunday following Children's Time in noisy pie tins. These small gifts collected by our smallest members are great offerings to our God! The coins have added up to thousands of dollars used for mission outreach in our community and around the world over the years.
Middle School Youth Group
The 'ICHTHYS Gang' is a group of middle school students who gather at the church after school on Wednesdays from 3:00-5:00 PM for Bible study, fellowship, and service projects once a week during the school year and throughout the summer for special activities. 'ICHTHYS is the Greek word for 'fish', and was the secret sign of persecuted early Christians.
During the summer they take a mission trip away from Chanute to see God's bigger world and tend to God's flock elsewhere.
High School Youth Activities
The Christian Youth Connection is our youth group for high school students that meets for lock-ins, Bible study, fellowship, and mission projects at various times in the school year.
Fundraisers are held throughout the year help to provide financial support for youth participation in retreats, camps, Presbytery and Synod events, and mission trips. Annual fundraisers so far have included the following:
Summer Church Camp
Our kids love church camp! During the month of June, we send car loads of children and youth to Westminster Woods for church camp where they learn the word of God and experience acceptance and welcome through great staff while making new friends and becoming reaquainted with old friends in the majesty and wonder of "God's Woods" located by Fall River, KS. The congregation recyles cans throughout the year to provide scholarships, making sure that every young person who wants to attend church camp can afford to go!
Youth Handbell Choir
Every Tuesday during the school year, those in grades 3-12 are invited to practice ringing bells and chimes so they may offer special music in worship.
